Here are just a few comments from this years event:
"I (as well as the others) had a blast. You guys have some awesome people there, as well as some creative builders! Food vendors were good/friendly, beer was plentiful and cold! Looking forward to next year already!" - Dan from Manitoba, Canada

"The dyno dude was a great idea! He was a good guy to deal with, was friendly and helpful. He was more than willing to tell what should be done to the bike, rather than just saying "bring it in to me and I'll tune her right for $$!" The cost was super reasonable too.  We dyno'ed Ryan's CFL... pulled 113.8 HP! - Manitoba, Canada Crew

"The bike games were fun to watch, live music, wet t-shirt contest, and beer, what else is there!" -Doug

"Hey Jeff and Bottoms Up Bike Fest crew. I would like to thank you for a wonderful time. Jay and I had a blast!!!" -Lizardo

"Great party Jeff!  Thanks for the good times!" -Jay

"Helen and myself just want to again say thanks for such a great weekend, we had an awesome time, can't wait for next year!" - Ram Man

"I wanted to say thank you for this weekend. Jim and I had a blast and I cant wait to see pictures!!!!" -Toni

"Thanks for letting us sling some ink! We had a great time. Hope to see ya next year!" Jez ~ Chris Strom

"I liked the extensive list of contest categorys for both the bike show and tattoo contest, there was a little something for everyone. For me I was really impressed with the number of custom bikes that participated in the contest and the quality of the bikes, I was amazed at the detail and creativity. The biker games were fantastic to watch and participate in. Kick The Dog band rocked! It was a great atmosphere to meet and talk with the other people. The wet t-shirt contest was hot...good thing the beer was cold! I didn't camp out but plan to next year" -
Chuck

"I had a great time and look foward to next year. You were a great host as well! The games went great and the music was good. You did a great job!" -Tommy

Bottoms Up Bike Fest would like to apologize for a sign posted at the entry gate this past weekend, that stated “No Colors”. We now regret posting it. After just now finding out about Minnesota Statute Section 363.03(3), we would like to formally apologize. If we would have been aware of this statute and had this information PRIOR to our event, this would have never happened.

On several occasions prior to the event, I was called into closed door meetings and it was made very clear that people were concerned about possible issues with attendance by members of 1% motorcycle clubs. We explained to them it was NOT a concern of ours. Prior to these closed door meetings, we promoted Bottoms Up Bike Fest on motorcycle club websites, spoke with club members personally, and we were very welcoming of their attendance. Many of you that know me, know that I am all about riding my Harley, going to biker rallies, meeting new people and talking bikes. I organized Bottoms Up Bike Fest because I wanted to get some of my biker buddies together for some beers, check out some beautiful bikes, and listen to some good music. Unfortunately, the pressure placed on me at these meetings forced me to change my entrance policy. I would have never changed the policy had I been aware of the applicable statute prohibiting this kind of exclusion.

This morning, I received emails from 2 separate motorcycle clubs, making me aware of the laws and statutes that support Bottoms Up Bike Fest’s beliefs and freedoms as bikers...ALL BIKERS ARE WELCOME!

Bottoms Up Bike Fest does NOT share their concerns about colors at our event. We believed our hands were tied, and our event would have never gotten off the ground if we didn’t comply.

Anyone that knows me, knows I’m all about freedom and the wind in my face. I am thankful to those that provided me the ammunition today that will prevent this from happening for all future years of Bottoms Up Bike Fest. Please don’t let this deter you from attending in the future. I want to make it clear that Bottoms Up Bike Fest welcomes any and all bikers and bike enthusiasts to our event. That’s how I envisioned it from the beginning.

Sincerely,
-Jeff

Minnesota Statute Section 363.03(3) makes it a crime to deny the full and equal enjoyment of any public place of accommodation due to unfair and unconstitutional discriminatory activity. In addition, any person whose exercise or enjoyment of rights secured by the Constitution or laws of the United States has been interfered with, or attempted to be interfered with may institute and prosecute a civil action for injunctive and other appropriate equitable relief, including the award of compensatory monetary damages. In the case of Cohen v. California 403 U.S. 15 (1971), the Supreme Court ruled that individuals have the constitutional right under the First Amendment, to wear clothing which displays writing or designs. A citizen has the right to move about freely and peaceably in public places, without fear of being discriminately removed there from. In addition, the right of an individual to freedom of association has long been recognized and protected by the United States Supreme Court Thus, a person's right to wear the clothing of his choice, as well as his right to belong to any club or organization of his choice is constitutionally protected, and persons or establishments who discriminate on the basis of clothing or club membership are subject to lawsuit.
